We made it! Finally at the Grand Canyon, we enjoyed 15 minutes of daylight before the sun set, but boy was it worth it. We’ll post more soon, but for now, enjoy our first view.

On the Road in Bavaria Day Nine: Mostly Good in Munich
This is the last post in a series about the first roadtrip Jess and I took together. We’ll be heading out for a Southwest roadtrip in just a few days, and will be chronicling our adventures from the road!
Our first order of business was to return the rental car in Munich. This sounds like a simple task, but no. It was hell. We spent at least an hour circling the train station, each of us running in to speak with various rental company agents, before being sent back out into the world to another location. Sigh. Jess and I never get snippy with each other, but the strain of returning the car had us on edge. Add in the fact that we got lost walking in circles trying to find our hotel, and Munich wasn’t off to a very good start. Continue reading
A Sidetrip to Watkins Glen, NY
To tide ourselves over while waiting for our SW roadtrip to commence (4 more days!!!), both Jess and I have spent the summer taking a bunch of smaller weekend and days trips – Vegas, Vermont, Rhode Island, Cape Cod, Hammond Castle, Calf Island… the list goes on and on. Our last “big” trip goes back almost 10 months – our 5-day weekend in Iceland – so we’ve needed to sate our wanderlust in smaller, more manageable ways. Enter my trip to the Finger Lakes in upstate New York last weekend. Continue reading
Don’t Miss: A Medieval Castle In Massachusetts
When you think medieval castle, Massachusetts is not a location that quickly pops to mind. Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Belgium? Sure. Massachusetts? Not so much. But much to my surprise, Gloucester, MA has an interesting facsimile of a medieval castle – Hammond Castle. Continue reading
Viva Italia!
After each trip, there is the inevitable letdown Jess and I feel when our vacation is done. As regular readers know, we are heading on a SW roundtrip (in less than one month!). But this time when we come back, we have something to look forward to – ITALY! Continue reading
The Last Days of Summer on Cape Cod
Last weekend I spent 24 hours on Cape Cod with my friend Karen. We went down to a family home in Eastham, and tooled around checking out gift shops and local eateries. We spent a lot of time driving by the iconic Cape dunes, but didn’t make it to the beach until we were about to leave. Continue reading
Favorite Photos: Up In the Clouds
Once I saw this week’s #FriFotos theme was clouds, I eagerly volunteered to take it on. I’ve been fascinated with clouds – and the sky, stars, moon, etc – since I was a child. There is something very appealing about clouds. They can be wispy, fluffy, lighter than air. Or dark, threatening, and ominous. Here are a few of my favorite cloud pics. Continue reading
On the Road in Bavaria Day Seven: Exploring the City of Salzburg
This is Part Seven in a multi-post series about the first roadtrip Jess and I took together. We’ll be heading out for a Southwest roadtrip in five weeks, and will be chronicling our adventures from the road!
Day seven of this trip was the day I had been waiting for – the Sound of Music tour! I’ve already recapped in detail our time on the tour (seriously folks, do it!), so I won’t rehash too much here, but needless to say, getting picked up at your B&B by a dude in lederhosen that looked straight out of the movie’s costume department most definitely set the tone for the tour. Continue reading
On the Road in Bavaria Day Four: Snowbound in the Alps!
This is Part Four in a multi-post series about the first roadtrip Jess and I took together. We’ll be heading out for a Southwest roadtrip this fall, and will be chronicling our adventures from the road!
I’ve already recounted a bit of the nightmare in Jungholz (the blizzard that started day three of our Bavarian road trip and didn’t conclude until the morning of day five). But here’s what happened in-between. Continue reading
Best B&Bs – and Why We Love Them
We love staying in Bed & Breakfasts. There’s something comforting knowing your host is doing everything to make you feel at home (literally in their home).
Now, not every B&B feels like a comfortable home stay – one particularly bad B&B comes to mind – but we’ve been fortunate to stay in some exceptional B&Bs. Here are a few of our favorites: Continue reading
